Need More Storage Space?

For quite a few of us things have changed quite a bit in the last several years. The value of our homes have fallen dramatically and for many of us planning to move up into a larger house this has caused more than a few problems. If you live in California as I do, there are very few buyers and lots of sellers. You can find great buys, but what can you do with your current house since you probably can’t get it sold.

If your family is similar to mine you could require some more storage space store all your belongings. Without adding on and complete a major remodel, which can’t make much sense given the condition of the housing market and the economy, we decided to install  organizers in our closets. This would give us more storage space in each closet by about 50%. We had initially installed them in 2 of our bedrooms, now we would install them in the other two bedrooms.

We came up with a plan that would help with our lack of storage space. What I did was to put in closet organizers in our other two bedrooms. This has the effect of increasing our storage as if we had built an extra closet, as most organizers increase closet space by up to 50%. Unfortunately this didn’t altogether solve our problem.

Like many 2 car garages we could only fit one car in it. This is the area where I needed to work on and expand our storage area to help remove the clutter. By improving our garage storage allows us a way to get things out of the house and stored in an organized space in the garage.

Our tactic was to transform the interior of our garage by placing storage cabinets along the walls and adding a workbench. Our plan was to utilize some of the wall space to hang bulky items such as bicycles from hooks. We also decided to relocate our gardening equipment to an exterior storage shed we had built. This gave us more floor space in the garage.

We put in pre-fabricated wall cabinets and storage racks on around 70 percent of the usable garage wall space. On the remaining space I installed wall panels that allow hooks to be inserted into tracks so that you can hang items on the wall. This is ideal for bicycles so that they won’t take up floor space.

The most difficult part of organizing your garage is doing a layout of the garage. You need to take the time to sufficiently plan where everything is to go so that purchase exactly what you need. Proper layout and planning is critical to the end result. By doing the planning correctly it will make the rest of the job a snap.

If you put in some effort, a little time and a little cash,a little money, you probably can take care of your storage difficulties. You can organize the inside of your home and after that organize your garage. Or you can do it the other way around. No matter in which order you do it it promises to afford you quite a bit more space than you could have ever imagined. Storage issues may be difficult for many families. Solving our storage issues will give us more time to wait out the current financial financial limitations and take advantage at the appropriate time to buy a larger home.

Space and storage problems can be taken care of with an easy do it yourself project. It won’t cost you an arm and a leg to get it completed. Take some time and see if a garage organizer can take care of your problems.
